Yesterday had been cold, wet and windy, and we lost our power for several hours. But, it wasn't all bad. In the afternoon, we saw our first hummingbird of the year - a little Rufous. I had already put up the bird feeders two days ago because someone locally had reported seeing them with the announcement, "they're back, they're back!". We love the hummingbirds - they make our summer.
This morning began nice and sunny, so we went to check on a few things. We did a circle tour.
Our first stop: the Osprey's nest.Next: one of our favourite spots. Most of the lakes are open now and are high at this time of the year. There's still snow on the mountains, and the trees haven't leafed out yet.
Then: a beautiful wetland area.I think these are Redheads, a species of diving duck.
Red-winged Blackbird
The wind had picked up a bit at this point.
